The most common form of landscaping practices, like the use of gas leaf blowers, are harmful not only to the natural ecosystem and to our quality of life, but also to our health and climate.

Most of us were taught that a good lawn means clean edges and leaves cleared the moment they fall. But that kind of "tidy" works against the ecosystem right outside your door.
The good news: sustainable lawn care usually means less work, not more.
Leave the leaves: Rake them into garden beds or around tree bases. They fertilize your soil, suppress weeds, and shelter wildlife through winter. Wait until late spring to clean up.
Shrink the lawn: Less grass means less mowing, less leaf blowing, and less work. Native plantings and meadow patches need less maintenance and support pollinators. Even a small border makes a difference.
Go electric: When you do need to leaf blow, switch to electric leaf blowers. They're quieter, lighter, less polluting, and require less maintenance.
